MAGUELONE
RECORDS
is
born
|
|
|
|
Close
to
Palavas
beach
exhales
the
supernatural
flavour
of an
immobilized
past
in
peaceful
eternity.
At
Maguelon,
an
atmosphere
of
order
and
tranquility
dominates
:
vineyards
in
perfect
alignment,
the
calm
waters
of the
lagoons
hardly
disturbed
by the
presence
of
birds;
then
right
in the
middle
of it
all,
protected
from
stares
by
large
pines
is the
Cathedral
of
first
Roman
art.
Yet,
in
this
atmosphere
of
peace
and
tranquility
was
once
great
turmoil.
During
the
era of
the
Wisigoths,
this
island
was
inhabited
and
governed
by a
comte.
At the
same
time,
the
religious
power
is
installed
and
Maguelone
becomes
bishopric.
Overcome
by the
muslims
who
came
from
Spain,
the
port
and
the
city
were
destroyed
by
Charles
Martel
in the
year
737.Bishop
Arnaud
in the
11th
Century
rebuilt
a
sanctuary
and
constructed
a
bridge
to
link
Maguelone
to
Villeneuve.
The
works
continued
into
the
12th
Century
under
the
direction
of the
bishop
Jean
de
Montlaur.
Maguelone
became
a
property
of
Rome
and
experienced
considerable
prestige.
Several
popes
visited
it and
those
in
difficulty
in
Rome
momentarily
sought
refuge.
Montpellier
however
held
an
important
position
in
this
region.
In
1536
the
Episcopal
seat
was
transferred
there.
In
1632,
Villeneuve
was
the
site
of
battle
between
the
royal
troop
of
Louis
XIII
and
the
one of
his
brother
Duc
d'Orleans.
The
rebels
were
defeated
and
Richelieu
ordered
the
destruction
of the
fort
and
castle
of
Maguelone.
The
cathedral
was
partly
spared,
but
the
blow
was
hard
and
Maguelone
will
not
revive
from
its
assault.
Since
then,
the
cathedral,
rebought
in
1852
by
Frederic
Fabrèges
has
been
restored
and
now
belongs
to the
Diocese
of
Montpellier.

*The
legend
of
Maguelonne
or
beautiful
history
of
love
of
Pierre
de
Provence
and
beautiful
Maguelonne,
girl
of
king
de
Naples
who
inspired
in
XVème
century
Clément
Marot.
(Epistle
below)
This
legend
kept
its
importance,
still
inspiring
by
many
writers
and
young
people
in
love
who
come
in
front
of
their
tomb
to ask
Maguelone
and
Pierre
of
Provence
the
protection
of
their
love.
If one
day
you
walk
on the
side
of
Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone,
to the
cathedral
...
.
One
day
the
king
of
Provence
returned
visit
to
king
de
Naples
accompanied
by his
Pierre
son,
who
fell
in
love
with
beautiful
Maguelone,
girl
of
king
of
Naples.
The
parents
refusing
this
marriage,
they
flee
on a
horse.
Tired
Maguelone,
they
stop
in the
forest
to
sleep.
Pierre
awakes
at
this
time
when a
corbel
stole
the
collar
which
wore
Maguelone.
He
took
to a
boat
for
catch
the
bird,
but he
is
made
prisoner
by the
hackers
maures.
Maguelone
entered
then
in
religion
and is
devoted
to
look
after
the
patients.
Pierre,
old
man,
flee
and
find
Maguelone
quite
old.
They
are
recognized
and
married
to
live
in the
island
of
Maguelone..

"Epître
de
Maguelonne"
de
Clément
Marot
(extraits)
En un
grand
bois,
où
tu me
descendis,
et ton
manteau
dessus
l'herbe
étendis,
En me
disant:
<Mamie
Maguelone,
Reposons-nous
sur
l'herbe
qui
fleuronne,
Et
écoutons
du
Rossignol
le
chant.>...
Finalement
m'endormis
près
de
toi,
...
Tu
découvris
ma
poirtine
assez
blanche,
Dont
mon
sein
les
deux
pommes
pareilles
vis
à
ton
gré,
et tes
lèvres
vermeilles
Baisèrent
lors
les
miennes
à
désir...
....
...
O
Noble
coeur,
que je
voulus
choisir
Pour
mon
amant,
ce
n'est
pas le
plaisir
Qu'eûmes
alors
qu'en
la
maison
royale
Du roi
mon
père
à
t'amie
loyale
Parlementas,
d'elle
tout
vis-à-vis;
Si te
promets
que
bien
m'étais
avis,
Que
tout
le
bien
du
monde,
et le
déduit
N'était
que
deuil,
près
du
gracieux
fruit
D'un
des
baisers
que de
toi je
reçus.
Mais
nos
esprits
par
trop
furent
déçus,
Quand
tout
soudain
la
fatale
Déesse
En
deuil
mua
notre
grande
liesse,
...
|
-------------------------------------
Mais
cependant,
Ô
gentil
belliqueur,
Je
dormais
fort,
et
Fortune
vieillait:
Pour
notre
mal,
las,
elle
travaillait.
Car
quand
je fus
de mon
repos
lassée,
En te
cuidant
donner
une
embrassée,
pour
mon
las
coeur
grandement
consoler,
En
lieu
de
toi,
las je
vins
accoler
De mes
deux
bras
la
flairante
ramée
Qu'autour
de moi
avait
mise
et
semée,
En te
disant:<Mon
gracieux
Ami,
Ai-je
point
trop
à
votre
gré
dormi?...
...
Autour
de
moi,
je ne
vis
que
les
bois...
As-tu
le
coeur
endurci
plus
que
pierre
De me
laisser
en
cestui
bois
absconse?.
